When I was a kid, I assumed tomorrow would look like today. Mom, Dad, and my brothers all together under one roof. Sure, I thought about the future, but I just kinda thought the future would happen; I’d still be eating mom’s cooking and going to basketball games with dad and my brothers when it arrived.
I remember when my oldest brother left for college. It woke me up to the reality of time.
We are all susceptible to assuming tomorrow will look like today. That’s a trap that lures you into taking this moment for granted. Dallas Willard says you must ruthlessly eliminate hurry from your life. I think of that often, as I’ve found it hard to value this moment when you’re in a hurry to get to the next one.
Aptus is 12 years old. That time has brought babies, weddings, growth, etc. It has also brought health issues, funerals, and struggles.
I’ve never been more aware of how special the gift of time is.
Money = Time
Money is a storage device for human time.
You exchange your time and energy for dollars. Those dollars provide you with living expenses, and hopefully, there’s excess to store away in hopes of growing for future needs.
When you think about your money and wealth in that way, it amplifies the importance of how it’s stored/allocated.
Our job is to protect your time. Yes, we want to protect drawdowns, but we continue to focus on the purchasing power.
More stocks, less bonds, risk neutral.

I love this season. It’s chilly outside, gyms are warm, the tuna are big, but more importantly, we get to spend time with loved ones and reflect.
Reflecting on what Aptus is and what we are building, I can’t help but be thankful. I’m aware that tomorrow might not look like today. That makes today much sweeter.
